Creativity mission; The Podcast Blues

Hiya everyone, it’s been a busy couple of weeks but I wanted to share my experience with what my group and I have been up to for my intro to digital media mission

First my group and I decided on Interactive fiction because that’s what stood out to me, But I've always been a big fan of podcasts and I know a lot of friends that listen to them whenever they fall asleep to make overthinking less of a problem.  We decided to change to digital audio, as it doesn’t put a lot of pressure on us but it’s still something out of our comfort zones. On the first day we made a whatsapp group as one of the people in our group preferred to speak outside of social media. But we tried to keep slack in a way to communicate how we’re getting on and so on. The problem with doing a podcast is you need a quiet place to record yourselves as audio can pick up everything around you so that was going to be a problem. I did all the recommended reading and listened to the relevant podcasts and It intrigued me how people spend so much time and effort in editing something so simple when they’re doing a podcast. Ways of hearing was probably my favorite because of the way Damon Krukowski explained what he was saying through digital sound and it blew my mind. But I knew my sound editing skills were nothing compared to his, hell I didn’t even know how to make a song intro never-mind manipulating each little segment of sound the way he did. I decided to meet with my group a couple of days later to plan our podcast, we spent an hour doing a mind map on what we wanted the topic to be about and we stuck to College as it is our first time in such an environment and we all had that in common.

Here's a picture of us being very productive ;)

There were so many different podcasts online that it was hard for me to choose which one I wanted ours to be inspired by. The one that was always talked about amongst young people was the Joe Rogan podcast, Joe Rogan is known for being a mixed martial arts commentator. His podcasts seem very normal, and he just chats to random celebrities like Elon Musk. Joe Rogan also has chatty conversations with people that he invites over and it seems natural and not forced which I like. We decided that our podcast should be a natural conversation about college life and the pros and cons of college and so on. We hope to produce a chill type of podcast and it doesn't have to be perfect, it's our first one for crying out loud. I don't want professionalism, i just want something that's entertaining to listen to even when it doesn't make sense. I want a nice intro and a nice outro and I just want the feeling of relaxation afterwards knowing that I done something out of my comfort zone and I learned about it along the way. Listening to these podcasts made me realise a lot of things, mostly ear porn but a quote that has really stuck with me throughout my time doing this ''On tape there was no undo, what's done is done. Nowadays you can alter each element of recording. The digital era has not only altered our tools for working with sound or image or moving images, It is changing our relationship with TIME itself''. - Damon Krukowski - Ways of hearing.

Our complete goal for this mission was to make the podcast seem natural, we didn’t want any serious editing like Damon Krukowski did which I admire him for. We wanted a topic that we could all talk about which was college life, and we would use the editing software audacity to help us along the way. I would use my phone to record our podcast as it has a pretty sharp microphone. We would pick a day where we had a free lecture and lab so that our podcast wouldn’t pick up background sound.

I’ll keep you guys updated with the end product and I hope everyone has a lovely day <3

To be continued.....

Culture Mission; What's so good about IOT??? A PROCESS

Hiya everyone! Haven't written in a while, i've been very busy with college but I'm back at it for my second mission.  In this mission there were various different options from the last creativity mission that we've done on podcasts. This time I had to form an entirely different group which we thankfully did right after our presentations a couple of weeks ago. There were options such as Youtube, memes, blogging but I wanted to do research on something entirely new to me and to the world itself which was Internet of things. Digital audio was pretty self explanatory but I had no idea what I would be doing for Iot and my group felt the same way, i asked my lecturer Shaun and he thought that a questionnaire would be a good idea which we thought was pretty interesting so we went with it. My goals for this mission are entirely different from my previous one. Before we had to think of questions for this questionnaire we had to research the importance of internet of things a

IOT - the good and the bad.

I just wanted to talk about what good we did in the mission, and what we could've done to make it better. This is the end product and how it didn't succeed. What I said in my previous blog post about IOT, i had no idea what I was going to be going into - I meant it. This mission was sort of a failure because of the direction we went towards with it. I think it was miscommunication on our parts but that can always happen when it comes to group work.  When we worked on this group project, we ended up working on our own parts as any group would do. I wanted to do some bits about security but I also wanted to explain in detail what IOT is about. The other people in my group talked about the questionnaire, the history of the internet, what IOT is etc.. but the internet didn't really have anything to do with IOT and that was our downfall. When we made the questionnaire , it was all over the place and it led to security issues but our presentation was supposed to be about
