Hi all! I wanted to update you on how we got on in the podcast and I have so much to say so here it is!
These past couple of weeks I learned so much about digital audio; Truth be told I'd glance at it if I hadn’t done this module. I stepped out of my comfort zone and I had done a podcast and edited it with two others from my group. It’s nothing perfect, i don't expect it to be but I am proud of it. Digital audio is very broad, it’s not just a recording of something or someone, it’s the sound your phone makes when someone texts or calls you, it’s the sound you hear when there’s a fire evacuation happening and it’s the sound you cry to when you’re listening to top 100 sad songs after you’ve been broken up with. There are so many examples in everyday life and it’s nice to have that in the back of your mind when you’re researching important stuff about digital media.
Anyway, when I was listening to a variety of Podcasts I realised why so many people hype them up. Podcasts are so easy to make, whether you have a phone on you or have an amazing microphone and computer set up, anything can be possible! Listening to podcasts can also be easy, they’re nothing like radio shows. You can listen to anything on a podcast; whether it’s advice on something personal or if you want to learn about the history of towel making, it’s all there. You also feel like you have a personal relationship with the host because they share their private stories with you and storytelling/narrative is what brings us closer together.
Our podcast didn’t fully go the way I wanted it to, it was messy not gonnna lie. Our intro wasn’t a very good one, but my partner edited it in a funny way which I thought was extremely creative. I was kind of happy about our outro, it went from a debate on whether slack is appropriate, to us ending it awkwardly but that's what made it so special. We talked about college on our podcast mostly, there were some bits and bobs I needed to cut out because it was way out of topic but other than that I'm happy with it. I went home afterwards and started the editing process on audacity, I never edited anything in my entire life but my friend guided me through it as she’s doing a similar course and she’s in her 3rd year so I was confident enough. Audacity is a very simple programme to use and it’s completely free! We all wanted our intro music to be the Wii Sports theme song so when I got home I did exactly that. I downloaded the song online and made it fade in and out so that it would mix in with our intro. I think we succeeded in a way because we done something we’ve never done before and that’s what creative digital media is all about. Our podcast was kind of a failure because we wouldn’t agree on something and it would turn into this whole situation and we would be extremely out of topic. I’m happy and proud enough that I tried in this mission and that’s all that matters. The point of this module is to learn and I learned a whole lot about digital audio and podcast making.
